United Nation shows concern about the ongoing situation in Somalia
The United Nation Security Council shows concern as regards to the recent famine threat in Somalia. They requested for unhindered humanitarian access.
“The Security Council expresses deep concern about the humanitarian situation in Somalia, including the continued risk of famine and the impact of recent flooding,” the council said in a statement.
The fighting in the country has worsen the humanitarian situation. Hence, all parties involved in the fight are to allow and facilitate full, safe, rapid and unhindered humanitarian access
The council also expressed concern at the on going threat posed by Al-Shabaab, who have been trying to overthrow Somalia Government.
Al-Shabaab frequently carries out car and truck bombings against military, government and civilian targets in the country.
Somalia has not had an effective central government since the 1991 overthrow of president Siad Barre’s military regime which ushered in decades of anarchy and conflict.
